Clash of the Titans

With the league standings beginning to take shape and the big guns starting to find their rhythm and form, this weekend will see the most hotly-anticipated matchup of the season so far with current league and cup champions Spencer hosting the behemoths from across the city, Hampstead. All eyes across the SEMLA teams and fans will be at Earlsfield where this London derby game is set to explode with arguably the South’s two biggest juggernauts coming head-to-head in a clash which neither can afford to slip up in. Both Spencer and Hampstead have enjoyed enviable silverware success over the past 10 years and are seen as the hottest two outfits in the South of England. With both teams sitting on one loss to their name, neither team will want to give an inch on their rivals and we can expect a fast and hard-hitting battle from start to finish which[…]

SEMLA Club Roundup 18/01

With 1st-placed Hillcroft’s game being postponed this weekend, this was the perfect opportunity for the chasing pack of Spencer, Blues and Hampstead to reduce the deficit and make up ground on the league leaders, all of whom did so in style! In the Battle of the Capitals, London-based Hampstead dispatched their Welsh counter-parts, Cardiff Harlequins, 18-4 in a dominant display to remind all around them of their potency and ensure they are still very much in the title race despite their current points trail, a result which extends their win total to 4 for 1 loss. Across the city, Premiership stalwarts Spencer carried on where they left off last week by hammering their visitors East Grinstead by 13-6. Despite the away team leading the game 4-3 at first quarter time, Spencer rallied in the 2nd to lead 7-4 at half-time and won the second half 6-2 to continue their win-streak which[…]

English Club Roundup 11/01/16

Following the Christmas break, the majority of English club teams returned back to training in the early new year in preparation for the stretch of fixtures which will form the final standings for the English leagues in both the North (NEMLA) and the South (SEMLA) as well as including the cup fixtures which will give us the teams who will feature in our Flags Final festivals in April and May. Unfortunately, the perils of playing lacrosse in the winter were present again this weekend where a number of top flight matches had to be postponed due to inclement weather conditions and waterlogged pitches. Whilst this is frustrating for all of the teams fighting it out for honours and survival, it now means that the fans get to enjoy competitive matches every weekend from now until the end of the season, with some clubs having to play two games over the[…]

SEMLA Club Lacrosse Roundup 14/12/2015

This weekend in the Southern Premiership, there were a number of huge battles at both the top and bottom of the league with undefeated win streaks being broken and several teams making a push towards the top of the league going into their Christmas break. At the top of the table, London-based Hillcroft continued their fine form with a 14-4 victory at home to Bristol Bombers to ensure they go into the Christmas break as league leaders with Bristol just 3 points off from bottom spot, where Purley remain having been resoundingly beaten 22 – 0 at home against East Grinstead. This result means East Grinstead will leap-frog Walcountian Blues into 6th-place on goal difference, with Blues beating Cardiff Harlequins 11-7 at home to take them within 1 point of the team from the Welsh capital with a game in hand on them. Over in Berkshire, 3rd-placed Reading Wildcats hosted[…]
