In a weekend where much of the UK was struck by Storm Desmond leaving several Northern towns and cities flooded and in a national state of emergency,  it was a surprise that any lacrosse games were able to be played whatsoever, however Sheffield Steelers with their 4G astro turf pitch and fantastic facilities at Sheffield Hallum University sports grounds, managed to play the only Northern Premiership game of the weekend, hosting 5th-placed Brooklands in a tie they needed to win to get themselves off the bottom spot of the table. Unfortunately for Sheffield, they couldn’t stem the tide of their pre-Christmas form and Brooklands made it two wins in a row, emerging as 10 – 6 victors. This takes Brooklands up to 4th-place however with 10 games played so far, they have at least 3 games more than the teams below them, meaning as and when these fixtures are caught[…]

English Club Lacrosse Roundup 21/11/15

This weekend saw a number of big matches in the Northern Premiership with all of the top four playing one another. League leaders Stockport maintained their impressive 100% win ratio by beating fourth-placed Heaton Mersey (and current LTP student Kevin Albert) 13-5 meanwhile LTP students Doug Homan & Jovan Miller (2G, 1A) helped Poynton beat Cheadle 8-7 to move into third-place with a 4-2 record so far having already played Cheadle both home and away and Stockport away.With Poynton playing Stockport on the final day of the season, this could well be a fixture which has a huge say in the outcome of this year’s title race and will certainly be one to watch out for. The only other game in the Northern Premiership in a weather-ravaged weekend was at Rochdale where the hosts lost 8-9 to their Lancashire rivals Brooklands with the winner coming in the last few seconds[…]
