This weekend saw a number of big matches in the Northern Premiership with all of the top four playing one another. League leaders Stockport maintained their impressive 100% win ratio by beating fourth-placed Heaton Mersey (and current LTP student Kevin Albert) 13-5 meanwhile LTP students Doug Homan & Jovan Miller (2G, 1A) helped Poynton beat Cheadle 8-7 to move into third-place with a 4-2 record so far having already played Cheadle both home and away and Stockport away. With Poynton playing Stockport on the final day of the season, this could well be a fixture which has a huge say in the outcome of this year’s title race and will certainly be one to watch out for.
The only other game in the Northern Premiership in a weather-ravaged weekend was at Rochdale where the hosts lost 8-9 to their Lancashire rivals Brooklands with the winner coming in the last few seconds of the game – proving that there is no such things as a dull game in England!
The game of the weekend in the South however was to be found in West London where Hampstead maintained their 100% record with a dominating 16-7 win over current league leaders Reading Wildcats to take them up to second place with 2 games in hand on the teams around them. Hampstead, featuring a number of ex DI & DIII American and Canadian players as well as German & Japanese international stars. have a truly global roster and currently boast players from lacrosse stalwarts such as Johns Hopkins, Colgate and Cornell as well a number of internationally-experienced players from across Europe. LTP will look at Hampstead in our “Clubs Under The Spotlight” feature coming soon so keep reading to learn more!
